The exhibition features historical items loaned from the Fishmongers Company and Billingsgate Fish Market\, including a replica of the 1272 Fishmongers’ Company’s first Royal Charter\, alongside objects from the collections of Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre. \nAs part of the exhibition\, there will also be a copy of the Queen’s first official portrait on display\, which will be in place until the end of the year. The original portrait hangs in the Fishmonger’s Hall in London. Only two copies of the original portrait have been made for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre is fortunate enough to be one of the venues receiving a copy. The copy will stand at around 7ft tall and will be displayed in the Muriel Barker Gallery in the centre. \nThe exhibition will run from Thursday 9 June until the end of December between 10am and 4pm\, except on Mondays. Today our group consists of five members – Ray Duke CPAGB\, Colin Lusby CPAGB\, Peter Scott\, Scott Hall and Stuart Cook CPAGB LRPS. We are all amateurs sharing a passion for our hobby. \nOur philosophy 20 years ago was to try to improve our photography by self help methods in the hope that our prints would be accepted in both regional and national exhibitions. We also decided to stage our own exhibition and to achieve some form of photographic recognition through either the RPS (Royal Photographic Society) or PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain). This was achieved by some of the group. Since our formation\, we have staged an exhibition annually in Cleethorpes and more recently at the Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre. This is our first venture at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre. \nRay and Colin have been members of the group since its formation\, whilst Peter joined later when the other two founding members had to step down. Scott and Stuart joined the group recently. The group continues to meet monthly to discuss the prints we have made over the previous few weeks. We also discuss new themes and challenges and other relevant photographic topics. So really our original philosophy has not changed greatly over that period of time. \nWhilst we still aim to produce high quality photographic prints\, we tend to work on a variety of individual themes and ideas which involve getting out and exploring our environment both locally and further afield. To that extent\, our photography is still ‘developing’. So what can you expect to see in the exhibition? Landscapes and townscapes of both the local area and further afield\, along with street photography and wildlife photography as well as creative and abstract work. The work in the exhibition will show a range of styles and techniques used by the five of us including both colour and monochrome prints some of which will have been produced using infra red radiation. \nScott and Stuart are bringing a new dimension to the group\, making positive contributions and bringing a different style of work. This makes a welcome change and extends our thinking. Whilst we are all of a certain age\, we are never too old to learn and accept different ideas and concepts. All five of us are members of North East Lincolnshire Photographic Society (brochures are available on the table by the entrance to the exhibition) and we hope you enjoy looking at our work. \nOpen everyday in the Cafe Gallery\, between 10am and 4pm\, except Mondays (excluding bank holidays). \nFree entry.
