Our museum and our galleries are suitable for visitors with disabilities. If you have any special requirements, contact us and we’ll help you arrange your visit.
Getting to the museum and parking
Directions to the museum
Blue Badge parking bays are situated close to the main entrance in the council carpark. Displaying the badge allows for free parking.
Finding your way around

Level access
There is level access to all floors of our main building and galleries. The main entrance on the ground floor has level access. There is level access from the main entrance to:
- Reception
- Gift shop
- Café
- Café Gallery
- Toilets, including 2 accessible toilets
Arrival There are automatic double doors at the entrance. The opening width is 144cm. The entrance area is manned with reception staff who may be able to offer assistance if required. The entrance is a level surface with no doorsteps. There is a low level desk at the entrance foyer reception area.
Getting around the museum
The main lift from the foyer allows access to all floors. The door is 90cm wide. There is a loan wheelchair on site. There is a low level desk at the entrance foyer reception area
Hearing
There is a hearing loop at reception for ticket sales and the gift shop.
Visual
Some areas are low level light. We have audio interpretation around the main display areas. Assistance dogs are welcome. Ask us for a water bowl.
General
We offer free admission for carers / personal assistants to the museum and to our paid for events and exhibitions.
There are trained Fire Marshals in our staff to assist in the event of a fire alarm and evacuation.
Family friendly
We are a breastfeeding friendly museum. Additionally, we have a small buggy park at our main entrance—though please take any valuable items with you as we don’t secure this area.
Restrictions
Ross Tiger: Unfortunately, this is not an accessible part of the museum for those with some visual impairments, and those with severe mobility impairments.
